Same-Day Electricity FAQs
Ìý

Power that comes from sources with energy that is continuously renewed is considered renewable energy. Common examples of renewable energy sources are solar power, hydropower, wind power, and geothermal energy, and biomass.

Renewable energy companies generate electricity from the sun, water, and wind, and other sources.

RECs (also known as renewable energy certificates, green tags, or TRCs) each represent the environmental and social attributes of 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated by sources such as wind, solar, or hydropower. They’re tradable and separate from the physical electricity. Buying a REC allows you to claim that amount of your electricity use is matched by renewable generation, even if the electrons you actually consume come from the standard grid.

As of 2023, renewable sources (wind and solar) supplied roughly , the highest share of any state.Ìý: from 2024 into early 2025, it added over 90% of new capacity nationwide in wind, solar, and battery storage, with monthly solar/battery growth exceeding 1 GW during 2024–25.

** Requests processed after 5:00 p.m. CST are connected on the next business day. Same-day service, or a priority move-in, is offered Monday through Friday, weather permitting, where an existing meter is in place. There are no connections on holidays or weekends. Enrollment and permit requirements must be met before a request can be processed. Your local utility company may charge a fee for a priority same-day setup, which may vary based on your utility company and location. We recommend contacting your utility company to see if there is a priority move-in or same-day service fee.
